TEACHING
Yoga starts in five minutes but everyone is talking about the latest news headlines. Everyone is anxious to offer their opinion and it’s getting a little heated. Do you ignore it and get everyone on their mats for class pretending all is well?
Fitness professionals are often gifted teachers. They have a love for learning and sharing their knowledge with clients. Spiritually, teachers are also leaders in that they are given enormous influence over other’s development in Christ. The book of James is clear that teaching carries greater responsibility than other callings. This is nothing to fear: rather it implies a God-given opportunity to make a difference if instructors and others fitness leaders are willing to let the Spirit lead them in sharing God’s Truth with their students and clients. Spend consistent time in God’s Word preparing to respond with wisdom, versus your personal opinion and insight. Teaching opportunities are everywhere. Look for ways to incorporate these teaching tips:
- Differentiate God’s Truth from your personal experience. Be careful not to make your filter your truth.
- Study God’s Word and other Christian teachings with the intention to change your heart, not just to turn around the information to share.
- Teach what you know, but remember it’s not about you. Any experiences God has allowed have value for pointing others to Christ.
