How well do you listen to that still, small voice?
One of the things I’m known for is finding money on my run. It all started years (many years!) ago when I was a child and found a $20 bill while I was walking with my family. At the time, things were tight financially for my family. My dad had been laid off. He was getting unemployment, and we were using food stamps. That was just the start of God teaching me various lessons by finding money on my run. (I’ll be sharing those lessons in a book I plan to have out in 2025. Stay tuned!)
This verse includes one of those lessons I’ve learned by finding money on my run.
On most days, I head out on a run with a plan in mind. I know how far I want to run and have a route in mind. But there have been times when I’ve changed routes during my run because I’ve felt like I should turn at a different corner. I’ve even crossed the street in an odd direction. In both situations, I’ve found a coin. If I hadn’t turned when I felt the prompt, or if I had waited to cross a street at a different angle, I would’ve missed finding money.
It’s not that I found a large amount of money, what was important was that I was willing to listen to the Holy Spirit’s prompting. Not only that but then I also had to obey. Sure, picking up a penny might seem simple, but the lesson remains: If we’ll listen, God will show us the path. And when we follow His path, He has good things in store for us.
Are you wondering what’s next? We’re approaching the end of 2024. Depending on the type of year you had, you might be asking, “What’s Next?” with fear and anxiety. But when we put our trust in God, no matter how 2024 went, we can ask, “What’s Next?” with faith and optimism.
It’s important for us to listen to the Lord’s voice. But first, we must spend time with Him so that we know His voice and can discern His promptings. When we listen, He will faithfully guide us. There’s no greater joy than following Jesus. Are you following Him? That’s the first step. Today can be the day for you to choose to follow Jesus.
Spend time with the Lord. Get to know His voice. He’ll be faithful to guide you to what’s next.

Take some time to sit in the Lord’s presence. Simply listen. He wants to show you the path to take. Will you hear His voice then obey?
