BIO GIRLS MELDS MENTORING, FITNESS AND FAITH

We like to give you ideas on how others do cross-generational and family fitness — truly being active TOGETHER! Girls On The Run is one such story we’ve previously shared. It is a national program (225 locations as of March 2018) that mentors girls and culminates in a 5K or similar race event.
Bio Girls (Beautiful Inside and Out) started in Fargo, North Dakota in 2013 by Missy Heilman. What sets this program apart is that it intentionally provides girls and mentors with a Christian faith-centered context. Per their website the program is described this way: BIO Girls is a program for girls in grades 2-6 that builds self-confidence and life skills through positive mentoring, physical fitness and Christian-based curriculum.
Bio Girls delivers on their mission in many ways. It encourages diversity and parental involvement as mentors. It promotes cardio strength, makes fitness fun and focuses on important Bible concepts. The program isn’t covert at all with the Christian faith. In fact the programming sincerely puts a high priority on caring for the girls by helping them gain a greater understanding of Christ’s love and Christian values.
I want to see more churches (Christians), YMCA’s, entrepreneurs and community groups start Bio Girls in their community.
