I do spend a little extra money here and purchase organics when I can, primarily because of the hormones used in the American meat and dairy supply. I don’t fall into condemnation if finances are a little tight, I just buy the other (I mainly buy free range, no hormones, no steroids) and eat it in faith, knowing God has blessed it.
When I lived overseas, I spent a lot of time talking to a man that owned the health shop in my village. He told me that Europeans believe Americans are so overweight is because of all the injected hormones and our high meat and dairy consumption.
• Consider, for example, moving from Yoplait to Choboni, then to plain Greek yogurt with nuts and berries and a bit of honey or agave nectar. I also like goat dairy products because they are less inflammatory than cow by products.
• Eggs, Egg whites are a great source of protein. I suggest avoiding Egg Beaters because they have a long list of chemicals attached so I wouldn’t let that be my first choice.
• Cheese, grate a larger piece of cheese or cut into small cubes and use sparingly. If you store grated cheese in the freezer it will not clump. A serving is the size of two dice. Pre grated cheese has a saw dust-like film to keep the pcs. from sticking together.
• Sour cream, cream cheese, cottage – check for additives and chemicals. I use full fat dairy sparingly or exchange for plain Greek yogurt – easy exchange, part for part. Some low fat is ok, just be sure to check for chemicals and additives.
• Milk, try going down from, full fat to 2% to skim or organic skim if your budget can handle it. Goat and Almond milk are great choices as well.
