What Are We Doing?

By Brad Bloom

I recently visited a spa at a clearly Christian destination. I asked the manager how they incorporate the Christian faith into any of their services or design. The response floored me, “We have open mindedness.” Say what?! That is interpreted, “We’re afraid that if we live like Christ we’ll offend someone and we won’t make any money. And besides, we’re a business first and Christians second.” All I can say is that they are unwittingly committed to missing the opportunities before them. That doesn’t just cost them spiritually but it hijacks their business success.

This type of attitude is exactly why people who aren’t Christian go, “Yuck!” when they encounter the faithless faithful.

So as a professional providing leadership at your fitness facility please do the following quick self-survey:

1. Did I give compassionate care today?
2. Did I deliver transformational instruction?
3. Did I enter into a meaningful relationship?
4. Did I pray with someone?

Quite honestly those types of actions are definitely not optional if you truly want to identify yourself as a Christ-follower. Moreover, your club is going nowhere if you aren’t setting the example of how to execute the mission of your service organization. If you don’t know how to do this and you aren’t comfortable doing it, you can be assured that your staff doesn’t.

Someone in your club is hurting today. Have you allowed yourself time to be in the presence of your members so that you can even notice? Someone else in your club is facing a tough decision today – perhaps they’ve made a bad error in judgment or struggling with something they call sin. Someone else is out there right now exercising and longing for anybody to just be a friend, show some interest and believe in them. Undoubtedly there is someone in the most difficult of situations or on the cusp of a tremendous opportunity and the best thing you can do is to simply join with them in approaching God.

If you and your staff are acting in these ways DAILY then I need to hear from you to share your stories with our readers. If you aren’t doing this, you need to get support and training – now! Your members deserve more and in fact expect more.
