The “Core” in Core Training

Already this month I’ve received yet another e-mail from a new reader who knows exactly what he wants and needs. He says, “I am 65 and married to my wife of 41 years. I am concerned about my health and exercise plan and would like a magazine subscription that focuses on the senior man’s health and exercise issues. The only thing out there that I’ve seen is Men’s Health but it offends my wife. It has good articles, of course, but mixed in with worldly views. Please help.”

The concept of core training is to build a solid foundation for the central part of your body. When you do that everything else naturally comes together better.

As you journey with us (now in our fourth year) and we support you in your journey toward creating your own faith and fitness lifestyle I want you to get a more acute perspective on the definition of “core”. This isn’t exercise with some Jesus added. It’s not Men’s Health with the infatuation for sex subtracted. Nor is this some other body-mind-soul perspective with a more “family-friendly” tone targeted especially for those from a more conservative background. The faith and fitness culture is not another alternative lifestyle. We’re not going to be the Christian alternative to the many fitness magazines you can choose.

Instead we know you’re curious to understand how the Christian faith uniquely and powerfully shapes every aspect of life. We know that if fitness is going to be effectual you need to see how daily physical life interacts with the spirit that makes you – YOU. Consider that God calls himself “I Am” meaning the eternal, self-existent, ever-present living one. That puts him at the CORE. He IS the core. Simply put, if God isn’t at the center of your life, everything else will naturally lack the full strength it should have.

This year each issue focuses on a different theme:

  • February/ March – MUSCLES ARE MADE FOR EXERCISE
  • April/ May – WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
  • June/ July – GET IT DOWN TO A SCIENCE
  • August/ September – USING THE PROPER EQUIPMENT
  • October/ November – RESISTANCE TRAINING
  • December/ January 2008 – A PERSONALIZED PROGRAM DESIGNED FOR YOU

With each theme we’ll provide you with a matrix so that you can very clearly draw connections between faith and fitness. It’s simple to use. Just print it and complete the spaces with your own personal experiences.

To all of our readers that are saying “please help” be encouraged. Faith & Fitness Magazine is bringing together the quality talent and knowledge of fitness professionals who are extremely passionate about their Christian faith. That is our core and what makes us a leading lifestyle resource, which more people are seeking and finding daily.

Train strong in Christ,
