P.A.W.S. How Prayer Is A Tool To Transform Your Wellness

Friendship is a beautiful gift from God—one that brings trust, honesty, grace, support, and companionship into our lives. When I reflect on the incredible friendships I’ve been blessed with, I’m reminded of how effortless true connection should be. Friendship requires nurturing, yes, but it should never be confusing or complicated. At its core, friendship thrives on communication, presence, and a willingness to be known. Friendship thrives on prayer. It’s a powerful tool to transform your spiritual and physical wellness.

Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. – Jeremiah 29:12

God desires an intimate relationship with us. A relationship built not on performance or perfection, but on connection. A union that strengthens us spiritually, emotionally, and even physically. God invites us into a relationship where we can receive every blessing we cherish in our earthly friendships—and far more. The most direct path to this closeness is communication, and that communication is prayer.

Yet for many people, prayer feels intimidating. We wonder if we’re saying the right words, praying “correctly,” or approaching God at the right time. We compare our prayers to others and assume our prayers fall short. But prayer was never meant to be complicated. Prayer is simply talking to God. It is an open invitation to come just as we are—honest, imperfect, and real.

Inspired during a quiet moment of prayer with my dog—grounded on four steady paws—the PAWS model was born as a reminder that wholeness requires balance. PAWS stands for Prayer, Affirmation, Workout, and Surrender & Superfood—four pillars that help build a firm foundation for faith, health, and intentional living.

Prayer builds our awareness of God’s presence and fine-tunes our ability to hear His voice. It allows us to slow down in a fast-paced world and remember that we are not alone. Through prayer, we experience fellowship with our Creator—one rooted in love, not fear. Jeremiah 29:12 reminds us of this truth: when we call on Him, He listens. Not reluctantly. Not conditionally. But fully and attentively.

Prayer includes praise, confession, thanksgiving, and asking for wisdom and guidance. It is both speaking and listening. Some days, prayer is bold and confident; other days it is quiet surrender. What matters most is not eloquence, but willingness. God is not waiting for perfect words—He is waiting for open hearts.

To help make prayer more approachable and consistent, the P.R.A.Y. model offers a simple yet powerful framework. It is not meant to be rigid or restrictive, but a guide that brings rhythm and intentionality into daily conversation with God.

P – PRAISE HIM

Pause. Breathe. Reflect on His goodness. Offer Him glory and honour.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, You are mighty, wonderful, and glorious. I praise You for all You have done in my life. Thank You for my physical body and the strength to move, exercise, and steward my health. I honour You for giving me the motivation to show up today. In Your precious name, I pray. Amen.

R – REPENT

Ask for forgiveness. Turn away from sin and allow God to make the path straight again.

Prayer:
Dear Glorious King, I come before You in humility, fully aware of where I have fallen short. Please forgive me for not honouring Your word or my body, which is Your temple. Purify my mind and renew my habits so I can nurture my health with intention. Cover me with Your compassion, mercy, and grace. In Your precious name, I pray. Amen.

A – ASK

Bring your needs, desires, concerns, and prayers for others before God.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, I ask You to reach into my life and align me with Your will. Give me discernment to hear Your voice. Strengthen my desire to honour You in my physical health as I do in my spirit and mind. Protect me as I move today—give me motivation, energy, and safety from injury. Help me make choices that glorify You. In Your precious name, I pray. Amen.

Y – YIELD

Surrender. Trust His timing. Lean not on your own understanding.

Prayer:
Dear King of Kings, I release everything into Your hands. I choose to surrender to Your perfect will because I trust You completely. Help me build better habits—eating well, resting well, and caring for my body as an act of worship. Thank You for refreshing me today and giving me supernatural strength—spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. Amen.

Benefits of Prayer for Overall Health

Prayer impacts far more than our spiritual lives. When practiced consistently, it transforms the way we think, respond, and care for ourselves and others. Prayer:

  • Breaks the power of temptation
  • Reduces anxiety, brings peace, and protects against depression
  • Aligns our thoughts with God’s Word and shifts our focus outward
  • Cultivates a hopeful, energized spirit
  • Expands faith and deepens gratitude
  • Draws us closer to God with heightened awareness of His presence

The benefits of prayer extend far beyond any single method. Still, P.R.A.Y. offers a beautiful structure—simple, approachable, and life-giving.

Prayer is also how we begin our day with strength and intention. When we start our mornings in prayer, we invite God into our energy, our discipline, and our choices before the day begins. This is why prayer is the foundation of the PAWS model. Before affirmations shape our thoughts, before workouts strengthen our bodies, and before surrender teaches us trust, prayer aligns our body, mind, and spirit. When we pray first, we move in God’s strength—not our own.

Let prayer become less about obligation and more about relationship. Start where you are. Choose one element if that’s all you have capacity for today. Over time, prayer becomes less of an effort and more of a lifeline—a steady conversation with a God who listens.

When you call on Him, He hears you. When you pray, you are never speaking into silence.
