Here is a Power Devo from 2011. I think I was right in my prediction…
The next big thing in the fitness industry is obstacle course racing. In just the last year, they have popped up everywhere. I survived the Spartan Race and now it has opened my eyes to the possibility of unlimited movement over, under, and through urban and rural settings.
The PD is below, but first a quick rant. I preached about “non-shoes” for years and promoted Nike Free. Now they are everywhere, and other companies are following suit with a mobile, low-tech shoe that allows your foot to move.
We have used kettlebells, tires, sandbags, bands, and other “odd” implements since ‘05. Yet, I still get an occasional comment from a new client about how I got my ideas for training from this season’s Biggest Loser.
“Bootcamp” had no meaning outside of the military until about 3 years ago. Call it what you want, but group training is by far the way to go to have a support system to produce long-lasting results, and we have had it in all forms since ‘04 (strollers, kids, moms, corporate, church, general pop., you name it).
Maybe you are reading it here for the first time or you already knew about them…either way, I am going on record about obstacle course running as the next big thing. This also leads us into a cool new series for Power Devos. I am calling it “Everyday Fitness” – open your eyes to the world around you. Having fun getting fit is not as far away as it might seem.
I will post all of the old Power Devos and I think this "Everyday Fitness" theme could be explored more. If you have ideas of Power Devos you would like for me to create, please comment below!
Live with Strength!
