So I’m up this morning and the sun is about to rise Except the sun shouldn’t be rising yet. This new daylight savings time routine is going well so far. I’m awake, refreshed and the promise of a new day is about to break before me as a crisp clear sky illuminates with vibrant colorful hues. I may even go for a morning run for a quite time alone to pray and sweat. I’m hopeful this little trick will outsmart my senses that tend to be susceptible to sleepiness and depression due to the longer hours of darkness. (I’m amazed Matt Evans our Executive Editor for Shout! Outdoor Lifestyle Magazine and his family do so well in Anchorage, Alaska.) I want it to be a good day even though I know around 7 this evening my body will get wise to the outsmarting. [I take a break from writing here to do the aforementioned run.] Though I ran briskly in the pre-dawn, I didn’t sweat much. It is chilly. I figured even though you’d never know from this newsletter if I truly ran or not, I should in fact do it. Perhaps my beginning-week routine could do with a morning jolt. And yes I figured if I’m going to write that I pray while running, I should do it. It progressed something like this: “God help me to have a good day. (Ok this sounds selfish.) God be with my family. (Hey I’m trying here.) Give strength to those I don’t even know… Use me to make a difference in someone’s life today.” About this time the sun crests the distant horizon and as if from across the expanse of the universe God says, “Welcome to your new day that I have given you.” I don’t know what all will happen today. But, I sure have a profound invitation to anticipate a day filled with God-directed opportunity. That is how you get out, get smart, get fit and get a great routine.
