I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Psalm 16:8 (NKJV)
“Drishti” is a term used in yoga. Sometimes an instructor will say, “Find your drishti.”
What is a drishti? Simply put, it’s an immovable spot to fix your gaze. The instructor often uses this cue when you’re doing a pose that requires balance.
How do you find your drishti? Look ahead and find an immovable spot. Fix your gaze on that.
Why do you need a drishti? It helps you achieve better alignment and gives you a focus to concentrate on.
It’s hard to find balance.
Whether you’re trying to find balance standing on one leg or trying to find balance in your crazy life, things can get wobbly. Sometimes you feel like there’s no way you can remain standing.
Oftentimes, when I take my focus off my drishti in a yoga class, I immediately start swaying and fall out of the pose.
I doubt I have to explain what happens in life when you start looking at everything you have to do while desperately trying to find balance.
Jesus can be your drishti. He is where you need to set your focus. He is immovable.
When we keep our eyes on Jesus, we will stand firm. He will help us find balance. He will bring things into alignment in our lives. When you find your focus on Jesus, you will live with intention and experience peace in your life.
Are your eyes fixed on something that moves? Are you looking at yourself and your circumstances? Set your eyes on Jesus today.
Action Step
Practice your balance this week. Stand on one leg. Look up Tree Pose and try it. Allow this practice to remind you to fix your eyes on Jesus.
