What do they take us for – gullible fools? I wonder when the pendulum between sensationalism and truth will start to swing back in the direction of genuine reality.
So let me get this right, President Bush is on the verge of getting a divorce, Donald Trump said something to Rosie about Barbara Walters that is supposed to actually be of concern to me and Kelli lost 55 pounds with Nutrisystem* (*results not typical). Yeah, no fake! We laugh with each other at each other as to how ridiculous it has all become and yet as Elliott Young notes in her article THE LOW DOWN ON DIETS, American’s alone will spend more than $40 billion on diets this year – and yet we’ll be fatter than at any other time in our history.
In the midst of this sheer insanity I want to tell you about an amazing weight loss plan that really works. I call it the Diet of Life. I know it works because I just gained 55 this week — 55 hours. Let me share briefly.
For months now I’ve been in a job purely for financial reasons. It was kind of like eating fast food twice or three times daily because “you gotta eat”. I knew it was unhealthy. I had too little time for my family, I felt a tremendous amount of stress and most obvious to me I knew it was going nowhere for me. Now that isn’t to say that I blew off the job or the employees I led. I’m a firm believer that whatever we do, we do it with integrity. I was even encouraged all along the way by some great Christian friends that I was doing the right thing. In fact I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m confident that God guided me into this job.
I’ll also be the first to tell you that I didn’t seriously follow God’s gentle guidance out of it. I kept hearing his “still-small-voice” say over and over again to me, “Man this job is taking well over 40 hours each week that needs to be invested into the ministry and business of Faith & Fitness Magazine”, but I didn’t take any action. (Yeah, God can speak in an audible voice – quite often your own voice – take a listen.)
Then, as I was putting together this issue of the magazine on the theme of “Weight Management” God put me on a drastic program. Physically and to some extent spiritually I’m an ectomorph – I’m naturally slim. My high metabolism makes it possible for me to eat high amounts of sugars, carbs and fats and never gain a pound. However, such a diet isn’t healthy even if there isn’t any physical weight gain. God knew (and I did too) that my spiritual diet was way out of balance. My use of time, my skills, my gifts, my knowledge, my experiences and contacts all we’re being cannibalized on what was meant to be a temporary job transition. Thankfully, God would be patient no longer. (I get a kick out of how Christian so often talk about being “patient on the Lord”.)
Am I surprised? Somewhat. Am I a little nervous? Sure. But, I can tell you I already feel much better. I’m excited like never before – and ectomorphs can get pretty excited.
The message of this “Weight Management” issue is pretty obvious: When it comes to our spiritual lives we’re carrying around weight that we need to lose. We have a couple of full-color PRINTABLE POSTERS that we made especially for this issue to help drive home that message.
On top of that you’ll find a magazine that is loaded with content from some very gifted writers. You’ll find this to be a resource unlike any other that is packaged to deliver a powerful 1-2 (faith and fitness) punch. I encourage you to print the MATRIX developed especially for this issue. Keep it with you and use it. Next, I recommend you begin your journey through this issue of the magazine by reading Darcy Tucker’s revealing report HOPE FOR EMOTIONAL EATING. It sets the stage for each of us to grab hold of the power of God and transform the way we practice weight management.
