P.A.W.S. Affirmations Train The Mind To Agree With God

The Power of Words: Speaking Life Through God’s Truth

Words That Create or Destroy

The power of our words—the very articulation of our thoughts and beliefs—can create or destroy, uplift or bring us down. Words have the power to crush our spirits or lift us up. I believe we have the capacity to influence our circumstances through God’s Word, which carries immense power.

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

The effect of our words is complex. They influence not only our own thoughts but also those around us—family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones. To bring about any change externally, we must first recognize and adjust our internal dialogue. Joel 3:10 reminds us, “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’”Maintaining a positive attitude, especially when things are difficult, builds character and resilience. This begins with understanding who we are, identifying our life’s mission and goals, and recognizing the person God intends us to become.

SPEAKING HEALING INSTEAD OF HARM

I remember a recent time when my son struggled with self-confidence. He was unhappy about his height compared to his younger sister. I had given encouragement casually before, but the issue was affecting his attitude and daily mood. I realized it was deeper than I thought. I prayed, sought God’s guidance, and looked for Scripture that could help me speak truth into his life.

Speaking rashly is like a piercing sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. – Proverbs 12:18

I sat with my son and shared:

“My wonderful, kind-hearted, amazing, generous, thoughtful son, you are a masterpiece, created by the most magnificent painter. Do not criticize Him by speaking negatively about yourself.

DECLARING TRUTH BEFORE LIFE BEGINS EACH DAY

I reminded him that each morning, before your feet touch the ground, you can confess and declare God’s truth over your life. Speaking life over yourself refreshes and renews your spirit. Taking thoughts captive and aligning them with God’s Word brings healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:8 states this principle clearly: affirmations rooted in God’s Word transform our minds and lives.

HOW GOD’S WORD REWIRES THE MIND

Affirmations disrupt negative thinking patterns and create new neural pathways for positive thoughts. Over time, these patterns affect actions, help us learn new skills, succeed in work, strengthen relationships, improve mood, reduce stress, enhance self-esteem, and decrease anxiety.

God wants His Word to be central in our lives. If we allow negative speech to dominate, the enemy can steal blessings and peace. Luke 1:37 reminds us, “For the word of God will never fail.”Proverbs 4:22 also declares, “His words are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.”

For me personally, affirmations grounded in Scripture help control self-sabotaging thoughts and speech. They have strengthened my self-worth and grown my self-love—areas I struggled with for years. Believing incorrectly produces wrong results, but speaking God’s Word brings deliverance and clarity. Guard your speech carefully; only God’s truth produces life and fruit from our lips.
