IT could be her birthday. Maybe IT is Mother’s Day. Perhaps IT is simply an opportunity to get together with mom purely to spend some time together and say, “I love you.” Whatever IT is, do IT well, do IT with passion and do IT consistently.
Mother’s Day 2026 is celebrated in the United States on Sunday, May 10.
When you think of faith and fitness together don’t embrace culture’s uninformed view of it as some convoluted blending of religion and exercise. You don’t need a spiritual crutch either to get through the day. God has given you much more potential and purpose than simply enjoying your workouts to be emotionally happy and at peace in Him.
The comfortable logic goes like this, “I like fitness and I love Jesus but I’m not very outgoing. I’m sure not an evangelist or preacher.” Fine! Few are. Nonetheless – you can do IT. And you can do IT with mom. So, keep on reading for a concise and effective way to say, “I want … IT!”

WHAT IS IT?
We’ll we’re not going to tell you what to do, how to do it, how much to spend and what the ‘guaranteed’ outcomes will be. Instead start with a simple prayer, “God show me, help me and give me the wherewithal to be all you want me to be.
Maybe IT is doing some functional fitness with a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker or someone else who is a busy mom. Yeah, we know, a lot of women are really busy. We thought we’d help you get started by casting your net (vision) wide right from the start. And sure, they’re going to tell you they’re too busy to do it. Moms are all under a lot of stress, managing demands, dealing with emotions and trying to function the best they can. That’s why IT can be you and her not just becoming more physically functional but also spiritually functional.

IT could be just going for a walk. No membership required. No special equipment needed. Mom may want to go faster, harder and further than you (oooook mom!) Or maybe for you, mom is in a wheelchair. Your walk with mom can shape your walk with others and certainly your walk with God.
These are just 2 ideas of what IT could be. But let’s talk about what IT needs to be.
DO IT WELL
We’ve all heard the saying, ‘if you fail to plan, you plan to fail’. I’ll take it further by saying that when you do it well (whatever God gives you to do with mom), God will respond to you with, “Well done”. That isn’t just a positive affirmation from God, that is you sharing in God’s joy AND sharing in God’s way of doing things.
Perhaps you’ve heard of God’s righteousness. Yes that means holy and pure. And for us, and what we do here on earth, It means: good works – done right as only God can do it.
While others may see doing something with mom as an obligation to check off the to-do list or perhaps as trying to out-do what they did last year or what someone else is doing you can do IT right making it an act of willful obedience, prayerful listening and eager anticipation.
DO IT WITH PASSION
When I say “with passion” I mean brilliantly as in with a lot of color. My daughter wrote about her mother/daughter 5k color run. She describes it as awesome. And IT is awesome when you do IT with passion. That passion can be colored brilliantly with a lot of qualities and characteristics like endurance, grace, joy and happiness, encouragement, vigor, honor to God, and so much more.

This not only shifts mindsets, it makes room for God’s Spirit to transform the spiritual dynamics by God working through you as you spend time with mom and be life to her.
DO IT CONSISTENTLY
OK, so here’s the final thing to keep in mind: Most of us are programmed for ‘1 and done’ – “I want to do something special with her that we’ll remember for a long time.” IT may start out as just something fun to do to celebrate her birthday. Perhaps you’re thinking IT will be a fresh and different way to spend some time with her on Mother’s Day.

Once is nice, but making IT one thing that you both value doing together routinely is a whole lot better. If you’ve never really had that kind of consistency before you’re going to discover it’s a game changer. Christ wants to transform your relationship with mom into next-level ‘awesome’. We all go through some form of the 7 stages of a family. IT, done consistently, can be a thread God powerfully weaves throughout your life.
Mom may have been doing something consistent for years now. This is your invitation – your call to say I want more of God. Start doing IT (something God-inspired). Do IT consistently now and again and again into the future through all your generations – world without end.
