In the fitness world, we are obsessed with “versions.” We chase the next version of our physique, the upgraded version of our PRs, and the latest version of our training tech. We treat our bodies like software that needs constant patching to remain relevant. But in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus modeled a different kind of update—one that wasn’t about self-optimization, but about total surrender.
“Not what I want Father, but what you want.”
– Mark 14:36
This isn’t just a prayer; it’s a radical biological and spiritual recalibration. When we apply this to our fitness, our health and our character, it shifts the focus from our personal vanity to God’s sovereign purpose.
BEYOND THE “SELF-SUFFICIENT” APP
Most of us run a “self-sufficiency” app in the background of our lives. We think we are the developers of our own destiny. We set the goals, we choose the programs, and we demand the results. But as long as we are the ones in the “I want” chair, we are running on corrupted files.

Updating to the latest version of yourself requires hitting the “restore to factory settings” button—the settings God intended before the world told you that you weren’t enough. It means admitting that our own desires for our bodies—whether it’s to look a certain way or to maintain a certain level of control—often get in the way of what He wants to do through us.

STRENGTH IN THE STRUGGLE
Living with a chronic challenge like Multiple Sclerosis has taught me that my “wants” are often small compared to God’s “will.” I might want a day without fatigue or a body that responds perfectly to every stimulus. But when I surrender those wants and say, “Father, what do You want today?” the focus shifts.
Surrender is the most intense workout you will ever perform. It requires leaning entirely on God’s Spirit.
Suddenly, the workout isn’t about me; it’s about being a vessel. The strength I gain isn’t for my glory; it’s so I can serve the community He has placed me in. When we stop fighting for our version of a “perfect life” and start accepting His version of a “purposeful life,” we find a level of performance that no supplement or training cycle can provide. It is a strength of character.
THE NEW COMFORTABLE
The world tells us to seek comfort, to avoid pain, and to satisfy every craving. But the “Latest Version of You” in Christ finds a new kind of comfort—the comfort of being exactly where He wants you, even if that place is difficult.

Surrender is the most intense workout you will ever perform. It requires stripping away the ego, dropping the weight of expectations, and leaning entirely on His Spirit. This Summer, as we look at our goals and our lives, let’s stop asking God to bless our plans. Instead, let’s ask to be part of His.
Are you ready to delete the old programming of “I want” and download the divine update of “Thy will be done”? It is the only way to truly become the latest, most powerful version of who you were created to be.
