Faith & Fitness Magazine: We love your new album Champion. It is full of musical energy and faith-building lyrics. Songs like Pioneer really motivate the listener to be bold and not be afraid. How do you feel your music pioneers new opportunities for Christians to be a presence in the popular electronic dance music scene and make a positive impact in today’s culture?

Beckah Shae:  It’s all about being sure of what you hope for. My confidence has been established by my hope and dependence on God. I’ve discovered how to trust God by taking risks. The more you are willing to get out of the boat, the greater chance you have of knowing you can walk on water. God specializes in the impossible. So if you believe He is who He says He is, then you have to aim beyond the possibilities. We decided to categorize our album in the dance genre rather than Christian even though we were advised not to – for the concern of our album drowning in the sea of EDM kings. We’ve built up courage to jump over doubts, and dive into belief simply because playing safe pretty much gets us nowhere and gets boring real fast. My advice is to know that God is for you, because when you know that, you also know you can’t lose. We ended up charting number 3 on EDM dance charts, proving yet again, it’s worth getting your feet wet.

Faith & Fitness Magazine: I can’t imagine you stand still when you’re singing these tunes. Share with our readers about your fitness routine and how you like to be physically active. How does the blessing of good physical fitness strengthen your Christian experience and the way you privately and publicly interpret your faith in God?

Beckah Shae: Good Fitness is necessary to get me through crazy travel schedules and concerts while also balancing my role as a wife and mom. I need to stay strong and healthy because I can’t afford to be weak or sick. It is so very relevant to my spiritual fitness because it takes determination, dedication, and most importantly discipline.

I like the Bible verse that says, “I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.”

In terms of making healthy food choices I love veggies and fruits and eat tons of them. I use very little to no butter or oils. I’m extremely careful with my carbs and sugars. I stay as active as I can when I’m home by walking, jogging and spending time at the gym.

Faith & Fitness Magazine: There’s a lot of attitude in every aspect of life these days. Everything we hear and see calls us to be successful, driven, and never quite fully satisfied with career, wealth, reputation, good looks and ability. How do you feel God gives every human a drive for more? What causes us to get off track and become selfishly motivated? Is it really possible to maintain a “Me And My God” mentality?

Beckah Shae: If Jesus is not enough, nothing ever will be. That’s it. Seek and search with everything in you to find out just how much you matter to God, because when you find out, nothing else will seem to matter. The world against you seems like a ping pong ball when you’re standing with the Maker of the Universe. While everyone else is striving to attain worldly riches, fame & success that are temporary, you can submit to God and obtain a joy, peace & rest that are eternal. Surrender the idea that you’re strong enough to succeed.  The reality is that it is only through God’s strength that you can do anything. When you discover that you don’t deserve anything then you will become grateful for everything.

Faith & Fitness Magazine: In your song Heartbeat you sing about “the rhythm of our Father”  (by the way it has a nice Native-American sound to it). How can we make our agenda to be God’s agenda? What are the biggest challenges keeping us from doing that? What opportunities await us?

Beckah Shae: Be Still.  Those two words have been my greatest challenge many times. Cling to God. Abide. Just wait. Be quiet and listen. We need to receive from God,in order to give. I think we often miss out on so many God moments simply because we aren’t willing to wait, be still, listen, acknowledge God and seek Him first. When we focus on God everything else comes into focus. Our agenda should be, “Give me a heart like yours to see like you, hear like you, walk like you and talk like you. Your will be done, Lord.” When this becomes our agenda, we step into the supernatural and we can experience His limitless Glory through our own lives and the lives of those we encounter.

A Bible passage that drives this perspective even further says, “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

Faith & Fitness Magazine: Your tour schedule is listed on the Bekah Shae website. What can we expect to experience when we get to a live Beckah Shae concert?

Beckah Shae: We invite God and He always shows up! I share my stories and sing my heart out. We worship, we praise, we cry, we laugh and we dance! And you leave feeling enlightened, encouraged, and empowered.
