Partnering with a Friend to Achieve Your Fitness Goals

If you want to lose weight or get physically fit, to get results, you’ll have to develop your mental strength and resolve. Nobody can work out for you – you’ll have to do it yourself. So resolve to get healthier and set some sensible goals. Having strong determination to reach your goals will mean success.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a friend who also wishes to get fit or lose weight, then you’re in luck because working out together or supporting each other on a weight loss journey can have enormous benefits. You can keep each other motivated and have a lot of fun.

People have been working out for centuries – it’s nothing new. We can even find some great workout motivation in the Bible.

Here are three action steps to get started on your journey to fitness or weight loss:

1. Keep in mind that all you have to do is show up, train, rest, then rinse and repeat. As long as you put in the hours, progress will be made. If you’re unfit, start out easy and build up when your body tells you it’s ready. Listen to your body at all times and don’t over-train at the start.

2. Make a plan of how many days per week you’ll work out – organize a diary so that you can track your progress to check that you are sticking to your plan. This could be a paper diary or a free online planner. If you’re partnering with a friend, you might like to do this planning stage together to set some common goals.

3. Resolve to keep going, even if your friend can’t make a session. It’s worth having a conversation with your workout buddy to agree that if one person has to cancel a session, the other person will still work out. The whole point of buddying up is to motivate and support each other – without anyone holding anyone else back. Good luck on your road to fitness and health!
