Forum Discussion: Why The Church Should Be Doing Fitness
Submitted by brad on Tue, 10/28/2008 - 7:56am.
This is an open conversation for people to discuss the concerns, challenges, opportunities and future of church fitness facilities and programs. Do you think the church should be in the business of doing fitness? Does your church do fitness or are they resistant to offering fitness ministry? Share your thoughts on how fitness in the church supports the church mission, fellowship and creates a better paradigm for doing ministry. Post your opinions and let others hear your voice on this topic. To read the article WHY THE CHURCH SHOULD BE DOING FITNESS go to http://faithandfitness.net/node/214 |

Church and Fitness
What do you think of the idea of churches offering an exercise class via a dvd that included exercise moves to work your entire body, great christian music, only equipment needed would be an exercise band (inexpensive to buy)? Churches could use this as a way to serve their community. Maybe even a dvd geared towards keeping kids physically fit. They could offer it as an afterschool program.
DVD Group Exercise With Exercise Bands
This could work. I think it is important, as I mention in the article, that the church commit to investing in a qualified/certified person to lead the group ---- even if you use a DVD. There are many reasons to do this: added safety, reduced liability, better results, improved interactivity, stronger public perception, etc. Will you be testing this DVD concept at your church? If so, we'd like for you to report the results to Faith & Fitness Magazine. Let us know if we can give you support.

Are there jobs for Christian personal trainers?
I think it is so very important to take care of your body. It is the temple of the Holy Spirit. I just wish I could find a job where I could openly share the mind-body-SPIRIT connection. I would love to be able to incorporate Jesus into my sessions as a personal trainer!!! It would be a dream come true to find a job with a church/ministry where I could share Jesus freely!
Church and Fitness
Greetings Brad. Great job on this Church and Fitness article! As you can gather from our brief time of getting to know each other that I completely stand by the fact that Church should be doing fitness!
Recently I have had the pleasure of starting a ministry through my church and with our business Body Techniques a personal training studio in Huntington Beach, Califorina
In your article you described the definition of church being a gathering of people. I completely agree!
In the book John Jesus clearly commands us to Love one and other. This is my command: Love each other.
John 15:17
Personally I can't describe the feeling that I experience when I work out with Men who have the same passion and fire for serving God as I do! It's Amazing!
I love when you write in your article that...There is a powerful spiritual connection to God and others that can only grow when we sweat, breath hard, physically hurt and get soar together. I LOVE IT!!
I am very lucky I get to workout and train my Pastors John and Larry and a lot of other Men from our church.
Something else that stands out in your article is..Bible history is clear in showing that people have been led by God to use new patterns or methods to reach out to people. I agree! What better way to reach out to others than through fitness and wellness.
In closing you stated in your article that..There is a tremendous amount of work to do it right. Yes, that might be true. However, I truly believe our Great King doesn't focus on us doing it "right." I believe He just wants us to "DO IT!"
Thanks for your great insights Brad!
